Presentation: Count Like an Egyptian: A Hunt for Hieroglyphic Numerals
About this Event
1702 S. Joplin, Pittsburg, KS 66762
In this general audience talk (translate as light on the math), we chronicle Dr. Cynthia Huffman’s participation in a mission/vision trip to Egypt, with a personal agenda of hunting ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic numerals in “the wild”. The sojourn included visiting some modern-day Egyptian sites related to Christianity along with many sites you would expect on a trip to Egypt – the pyramids, Saqqara, the recently opened Grand Egyptian Museum, Karnak and Luxor temples, and the Valley of the Kings. Be prepared to see lots of photographs and to learn to translate ancient Egyptian numerals. Everyone, including students, faculty, staff, and community members, are all welcome to attend.
