Pittsburg State University’s College of Education will host a unique new camp especially for high school students who dream of a career in teaching.
The Gorilla Educators in Training (G.E.T.) Camp will be held on campus June 23–24, offering high school students an immersive, hands-on introduction to education.
The overnight camp, designed for students in the Classes of 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029, will begin at 3 p.m. on June 23 and conclude at 3 p.m. on June 24. Participants will stay in residence halls (dorms) and experience college life while exploring the teaching profession.
Camp activities will include interactive games, hands-on teaching experiences, and sessions focused on classroom management and career pathways in education. Students also will have the opportunity to learn in both small and large group settings and share meals with fellow campers.
Featured guest speakers include inspiring award-winning local teachers Tim Vesco and Meredith Reid.
Enrollment is limited to 40 students. The cost is $50, with fee waivers available for students with financial need.
The camp is directed by Assistant Professor Emily Cooper George in Pitt State Teaching and Leadership.
